Banana
60-100cm tall potted Misi Luki & Goldfinger varieties. Grows best in warm sunny or partly shaded position sheltered from wind. Heavy feeder so mulch and compost regularly. Increase watering in warm growing season (does not require watering in winter) Produces good sized racks of sweet thin-skinned lady finger type bananas. Expect flowering after 12-18 months.

Taro
30cm tall edible Taro. Two varieties available - Waiheke heirloom and Japanese Satoimo. Grows best in frost-free position in full sun or part shade. Requires constant moisture and rich organic soil. All parts of the Taro plant are edible but must be thoroughly cooked to disolve the oxalate content which can cause throat ichiness/stinging.
